platform of choice

After deciding to start blogging again, my first task was to find a simple yet powerful platform. pepperidge farm remembers 👴 In prehistoric times, I hand-coded my homepage with a text editor. God, the end product looked terrible, and it wasn’t fun. So I switched to a less labor-intensive publishing tool, WordPress. It had the advantage of being customizable and lightweight, yet feature-rich enough for my needs. Fast forward a decade, and the standard on the web has changed dramatically. The median page weight on desktops has gone from 738.3 kilobytes to 2,291.6 kilobytes in ten years. Mobile is even worse, with a starting median nearly half that of desktops, and a final median only 200 kilobytes lower. Fast forward seven years, and the honeymoon with my beloved MacBook Pro is well over. I began to notice that it was slower than it used to be. I wanted to upgrade sooner, but the loss of ports, the presence of the touch bar, and the infamous butterfly keyboard held me back. In the past – about 20 years ago – I had a personal website hosted on UltraWEB’s free service. It was a place where I could tinker with things I learned in computer science class and express my thoughts in an unrestricted, yet structured way. I decided to start something like a blog again with the following goals: improve my written English while articulating my thoughts, keep a log of the things I do, provide useful information for like-minded people Since I’m still a very curious person, the content will cover a wide variety of topics that interest me. Do not expect consistency. ...
